the littlest independence

Happy Independence Day!!!!

Today marks the day that the Declaration of Independence was first signed, although the majority of the signatures came several weeks later. We’ve since turned it into a day to celebrate “Murica” and BBQ with some friends and beers. Which is all well and good, I’m glad people can still get their patriotism on.

I just wanted to take a second to revisit what today really represents. Our founding fathers put their lives on the line to give us the freedom and privileges we have today. Modern politics aside, we are incredibly lucky to be able to make such an enormous range of decisions for ourselves without any government input. Where we live, where we work, our religion, who we can marry, how large or small our families are- all choices that we are able to make without needing anyone’s approval. That is HUGE.

So today, please do both me and the original American Patriots a favor. Stop for a second and genuinely appreciate what you have. Many people have put themselves in harm’s way so you can have the life you do today. :)

Just a little food for thought!
Happy 4th of July!!!!
